Roskilde!

For 9 days last week I went to Northern Europe's largest music festival where 130,000 other people were gathered at the same place to camp together, watch concerts and just have a good time with eachother. It was INCREDIBLE!

The first 5 days were spent having fun camping with 85,000 other people.

I have never drunk so much in my entire life! My first beer was already on the train to Roskilde, and I had at least 7 beers a day, plus other Danish spirits. I even took a raket, where you drink 3 beers in one go, then 2 beers in one go, and then one final beer which is such a challenge to swallow! I managed to drink the 6 beers in 31 minutes, which was somewhat disappointing as others in my camp could drink them in under 5 minutes. When we weren't taking rakets, we were finding other ways to drink more beer, such as beer-bowling and a boardgames with beer penalties!  

The music was amazing too! I saw 16 bands in total, ranging from popular Danish artists like Oh Land, Medina, Veto, De Eneste To and L.O.C. and then world famous Kings of Leon, My Chemical Romance, Deadmau5, M.I.A., Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes!

I had SO much fun at Roskilde! After not being able to take a shower for that long (although I went skinny-dipping in a FREEZING COLD lake so that kinda counted as a shower;)) and using non-flushable toilets didn't dampen anyone's mood at the festival and everyone was so happy and we had the times of our lives!

I made a lot of new friends and many great memories ranging from saving someones life to dancing all night with random people walking by! Those 9 days at Roskilde Festival have been the best days in Denmark so far and I am just so grateful I got to spend it with the nicest people you'll ever meet in Denmark :)

The only bad thing about having so much fun for over a week with only few hours sleep each day, is that this week I have been like a zombie. What's worse was that each day this week I had driving lessons at 10am so haven't had a chance to sleep in! Let's just say my driving instructor wasn't very impressed with my driving this week (and I had to drive on a motorway at 130km too!). But now my bags are packed and ready for my next summer experience: a journey up through Sweden and Norway to visit my beautiful Norwegian friend Kristine in Tromsø- and experience the Midnight Sun!!!! I leave tomorrow!

Patriotic Relief

I know it's a dodgy mobile phone photo, but just imagine the colours in real life!

It's been over a month since I last blogged! Time flies when you're, erh, doing stuff! To quickly sum up May: 

• I met some really great people! (and perhaps drank a little too much alcohol but all in true Danish spirit ;)
• Eurovision- what more is there to say haha!
• I became really sick for over a week- though not from eating German cucumbers!
• I started my course in getting my Danish driver's licence!

Although it is a pain having to relearn to drive because the driver's seat is on the left, I am really happy that I'm getting my licence in Denmark. That means it will only take me 3½ months to get my open licence compared to the stupidly lenghthy Queensland process of going through 100-hour logbooks, yearly practical haphazard tests and various coloured P's before eventually getting your open licence when you're 30. Okay, maybe a bit younger than 30, but still! I can't wait to get my Danish licence (though don't remind me of the cost. *COUGH COUGH*).

Last Saturday was the first day that I've worn shorts since leaving Australia in February! Amazing isn't it?! Summer has truly arrived in Denmark, with the temperature reaching almost 25 degrees every day this week! Even the Danes themselves cannot believe their luck! I had a class on Monday where it was getting rather warm in the class and the students were complaining, and without thinking I said "Yeah, let's turn the fans on" but instantly realising that there are no ceiling fans in any rooms here! With no cooling aid in the class I left them to sweat- teaching them a true-blue Aussie feeling haha ;) However, the weathermen have already told us to expect cooler weather next week with lots of rain, so I better enjoy this comfortable weather while it lasts!

It doesn't get dark until past midnight now so that's keeping me up at night. Oh that and watching Season 6 of Doctor Who with a slow internet connection!

Before I leave you, here is one more glimpse of Danish life. Look at the amazing sight I have whenever I need to go to the toilet!

It's a wonderful feeling relieving yourself whilst feeling patriotic.

I've Been A Few Places Lately

A satellite image of Denmark! Denmark is within the blue border, the island of Fyn is circled by a yellow border and the green spot is where I live!

I hope you understand the above map because it took me ages to make! Why did I make it? Well to be honest it was too cold today to go outside so I had nothing better to do. But another reason why I did it was so you fellows can see exactly where abouts I am living and where I have been the last 2 weeks. If you look carefully on the map of Denmark, there are 3 spots: a green, red and blue spot. Read below to find out what I was doing at these 3 exciting spots! 

 

GREEN SPOT: MUNKEBO

So the green spot on the map is the small town of Munkebo where I live. Here I spend my days off at work and as you can see I've been having the time of my life with my friends!

 

RED SPOT: FYNSHOVED

As you should know by now, I live on an island called Fyn. The Northern-most tip of the island is called Fyns Hoved (literally meaning Fyn's head) which is the red spot! Here I am on the top of Fyn!

BLUE SPOT: ESBJERG

The blue spot on the map is Esbjerg- a reasonably big fishing town on Jylland (or Jutland in English) which is the only part of Denmark that's not an island. Here in Esbjerg four giant white men sit facing West staring out at sea. They were amazing!

On this photo you can see how massive these men are compared to me!  

They're like the Danish answer to the Easter Island statues and the four Egyptian statues outside a temple (no clue what it's called). That day in Esbjerg I also visited a fishing museum which wasn't exactly what I call exciting. It was basically a museum showing the different nets fishermen in Denmark have been using through the years!! Anyway now it's May and I've already got a few things lined up for this month, including a trip higher up in Jutland and few bits here and there. Also, summer is fast approaching which I CAN'T WAIT FOR!! I've almost completely organised what I'll be doing in the Summer and all I'll tell you now is: NORWAY, SWEDEN and ENGLAND!
